Emily “Emmy” Ann Matejovitz

Emily “Emmy” Matejovitz was a bright light, full of life, love, and kindness. Whether she was playing softball, roller skating with friends, bowling, baking, or shopping for the perfect dress, jewelry, and shoes, Emmy brought joy and personality to everything she did.

Softball held a special place in her heart. Emmy loved pitching, striking out batters, and catching line drives, but she was also the first to cheer for her teammates, whether they were winning or losing. She took great pride in getting her uniform as dirty as possible, smiling as she told her mom, “Have fun cleaning my jersey.”

Emmy was intelligent, beginning advanced classes in seventh grade, and dreamed of becoming an ultrasound technician so she could help others. She loved babies and children, who felt happy and safe in her arms. She wanted everyone around her to feel welcomed, valued, and included. She also treasured her special relationships with both of her grandpas and loved sharing her bed with Champ, her beloved English bulldog.

Emmy’s caring spirit continues through her decision to become an organ donor. Her heart, kidneys, and liver saved the lives of three people, including two young boys named Landon and Ripley, while her other gifts brought healing to many more.

Emmy will always be remembered for her beautiful heart, joyful spirit, and selfless love. As Psalm 73:26 reminds us, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
